I feel like better points could be made here, but I overall 100% agree. During my schooling (Trigger warning violence, abuse, nationalism, ableism, sexism, etc.)
I lived through being forced to say the pledge of allegiance every day where students who did not stand, even if they could not physically stand, were punished either physically or with detention up until middle school when parents challenged it--at least in my district. (Might I add, forcing kids to pledge loyalty to a nation like that is VERY creepy and makes Germans nervous for obvious reasons.) I also dealt with:

1. Physical bullying that often blamed victims through "no tolerance" policies.
2. Lack of or no accountability for not following my accommodations once diagnosed (and others as well sometimes, but especially if you were diagnosed late.)
3. Being coerced and forced onto medications that made me get migraines and worsened my already ill health. (I am chronically ill)
4. Sexual harassment that was not helped by anyone--bar some very kind security and janitors I was friends with. (My fam were the people who left shit behind, would have to come in late to retrieve it, and gave them cookies as a thanks, lol)
5. The years of ableist and mental abuse from many adults, including the whole "because I said so" argument everywhere that just perpetuated abuse cycles.
6. (Not me personally, but) police violence against vulnerable students--POC and more clearly/visibly disabled students especially.
7. Lack of change or response when there were 3 hate crimes on campus in two weeks, bar grief counselors for 1 week. The hate crimes involved the trashing of a staff member's car and defacing it with racist symbols and phrases, nazi symbolism, and overt antisemitism and sexism via vandalism.
8. Trying to fire a teacher for being a part of a protest--when he actively avoided it and kept his political running for office out of school, according to the law. (Students forced the school to keep him and he is still there.)
9. Oh yeah, my HS was the school "America to Me" was about.
10. Banned from parts of the libraries and not allowed to check out certain books during elementary school because I "didn't pick appropriate books". I wanted eyewitness books on sharks or ancient Egypt that had "too many pictures" for my grade level by 3rd grade, and then tried to get the "cat warriors" series which had "too many words" for my grade level. They actively had people drag me out of parts of the library they did not want me to be in, which also was traumatizing.

I really don't need to go on, but to put it short: Sexism and SA was everywhere in my HS (including tampering with evidence that harmed a victim's case), literal book bans and discrimination of those who read differently (especially those with learning disabilities), ableism everywhere (too much to say here, lol), literal nazi hate crimes that were basically ignored, racism, police presence and brutality worsening the school-to-prison pipeline, forced acts of nationalism, and an encouragement of abusing power and being permissive towards all kinds of abuse, CHILD abuse I might add. (Especially if it protects tenure teachers that nobody likes, even other staff members.)
