Competitive video games, also known as “E-Sports” in the community, represent a quickly growing mental form of competition. One such sport includes a popular competitive online collectible card game, “Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.”

Hearthstone is based on the widely popular online game, World of Warcraft. In Hearthstone you pick from one of nine classes available, and create a deck of thirty cards filled with “minion” and “spell” cards to defeat your opponent.

There are currently four game modes to play: Ranked, Casual, Arena, and Tavern Brawl. Each of these offers a different experience of play for casual and competitive players alike. Much of the skill in Hearthstone comes from strategy and deck-building ability. You advance in the game by playing matches with opponents to earn gold, which in turn can be used to purchase more packs of cards.

“Sheathe your sword, draw your deck, and get ready for Hearthstone – the fast-paced strategy card game that’s easy to learn and massively fun” (Blizzard.com).
