After an unexpected weather delay, the William Jewell College Cardinals took on the Missouri S&T Miners in the 2019 Homecoming game. Alas, despite several standout plays, Jewell left the game with a loss – the final score being 41-24 for the S&T Miners.

While the game was initially scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, lightning strikes in the area caused the game to be postponed until 2 p.m. Sunday with 10 minutes and 21 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The S&T Miners put the first points on the scoreboard – scoring a touchdown with 8:28 remaining in the first quarter. Three minutes later the Cards followed suite with a touchdown scored by wide receiver TJ Guillory, sophomore economics and business administration major, after a 45 yard pass from quarterback Will Schneider, junior undeclared major.

The S&T Miners finished the first quarter in the lead – scoring a second touchdown with 2:10 left on the clock.

Jewell’s Cards kicked off the second quarter with a field goal from 34 yards by kicker Dalton Dye, junior accounting and business administration major, at 12 minutes and 43 seconds. Alas, the S&T Miners finished the quarter strong by scoring two more touchdowns – the last in the final second of the second quarter.

During halftime, Jewell’s Homecoming king and queen were announced during the annual coronation ceremony. The marching band and dance team did not perform, though according to the game’s announcer – “They’re present, just not playing.”

Hannah Keeney, senior psychological science major, was voted the 2019 Homecoming queen and Cameron McKasson, senior political science major, was voted Homecoming king. McKasson plays as a linebacker for the Jewell Cards and was injured during the game’s second quarter, hence he was not present to accept his crown.

During halftime Kappa Alpha and Alpha Gamma Delta were awarded the Homecoming spirit stick.

Wide receiver Zack Gaudette, junior nursing major, opened the third quarter with a touchdown in the fifth minute. The S&T Miners recovered quickly, scoring two more touchdowns and finishing the quarter with a score of 41-17.

The final touchdown of the game was scored by Guillory in the fourth quarter.
