On this Halloween day, Jewell’s team may have costumed as defeated, but really they were setting seasonal records.

The Cardinals set a seasonal record for offensive yards with 479-yards passing. A career high was achieved by Jewell quarterback Nick West, senior. West scored four touchdowns, going 19-33 for 455-yards. Wide receiver Anthony Mullins, sophomore, set personal seasonal records with 199-yards and two touchdowns.

The game was not a certain loss from the outset; both teams worked hard in an attempt to win. The University of Indianapolis began the first quarter with a touchdown, but the Cardinals fought back. Mullins put Jewell on the scoreboard and made the first Cardinals’ touchdown with a 67-yard pass.

Jewell and the University of Indianapolis scored back and forth constantly until the game’s second half. West threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Nate Egharevba, senior wide receiver. Following Jewell’s touchdown, the University of Indianapolis scored three touchdowns in a row, taking a 63-28 lead.

During his completion of seven passes, Egharevba set a season high of 143 yards and two touchdowns. Egharevba, along with the other seniors on the team, was honored before Saturday’s game.

“Honestly, [the senior recognition game] really helps with the closure to your days as a student-athlete and gets you focused on the future and what’s the next chapter in your life, said Vinny Bockhoff, senior linebacker. “It’s also bittersweet being that my time as a football player is over after all of the years put into it. My body is ready for a break and my future needs the additional free time to get my life started, but I will miss the brotherhood and competitive atmosphere.”
