After a five-set thriller, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6 and 6-1, Federer won his sixth Australian Open. This win is welcomed into his collection of 20 Grand Slam titles.

This year’s Australian Open was the 200th Grand Slam in Open history. Since Federer has 20 titles, he has won 10 percent of the Majors in 50 years of tournaments. This latest win also made him the fourth person with the most Grand Slam wins, losing only to Margaret Court (24), Serena Williams (23) and Steffi Graf (22).

Another number that has had a lot of attention lately is 36, Federer’s age. As the star grows older, the pressure to retire increases. He is one of The Big Four, the group of the four dominant stars in the tennis universe. As Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal, the other top three, struggle to keep up with Federer and their injuries, the veteran stated at the end of last year that he still has not decided when he will retire.   

The alarming frequency of injuries on the circuit, which is not something exclusive to the older players, should be a bigger concern for the Association of Tennis Professionals.
