Each clip appears for exactly one second, is a still shot, projects only ambient noise and follows the linear progression of my day at the all but deserted Mansfield College at Oxford University. Over 30 seconds, you can view the main events of that quite mundane day for me – making coffee, trekking over to the College’s ornate main building to do laundry, a stroll in the park and me preparing dinner. The quick, choppy movement of the day is contrasted with an eerie, impenetrable stillness that parallels the solitary carrying on of domestic life during the seemingly world-stopping effect of COVID-19.
