Thank you for the kind words! The students who worked diligently to bring more awareness to the subject through their research are a great example of what makes our institution special--despite stains on our past, such as the ones outlined in this article. Shaping our future is dependent on acknowledging out past and making meaningful changes.

WOKE! How wonderful to find a professor and students dedicated to uncovering the truth. My impression of the school before reading this article was that William Jewell was a conservative, somewhat stodgy, religious school. Not as bad as Hillsdale in Michigan, but not as dedicated to true precise journalist truth. This article proves me wrong. You are woke. You have my utmost respect. My neighbors are both Jewell grads. I will pass this article on.

Just a note of appreciation for your work. The collaborative genealogy website, Wikitree, is starting to document Black genealogy. At present they have not yet covered Clay County. I am writing you because my great-grandfather, Robert Hugh Miller, founder and publisher of the Liberty Tribune (see his name in Wikipedia) held a few household slaves and was probably a trustee of William Jewel. As a small child I was taken to visit his daughters in Liberty, my grandaunts. With them was an old lady who had been born in slavery and stayed with the family. I have later wondered if she was their half-sister. I regret that I have been unable to recall her name.
