Weekly events preview #5

This week is Halloween, which means that every day is costume day! But maybe not actually, just come dressed as a stressed student and you’ll be fine.

Starting off on Monday, Fiji is hosting its annual Halloween party from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Find a cute or terrifying costume and show up to Fiji ready to have a good time. Tickets are going to be sold for $3 before the event during Jewell Time or $5 at the door.

Tuesday is advising day which means no classes. But don’t worry, there’s still a bunch of things to do. Zeta Tau Alpha is having a fundraiser at Liberty Nutrition all day, so go get some nutrition in shake form. Delta Zeta is raising funds at Raising Canes from 5-9 p.m. The dining etiquette lunch hosted by Career Development is at 11 a.m. It’s also the third annual Jewell Night in the Maybee Center. Starting at 7 p.m. there will be free pizza, a faculty and staff basketball game, competitions and prizes, parking spot give-a-ways and many other fun events. Tickets are $1 before the event or $2 at the door, and all proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish foundation.

On Wednesday there’s a Truex Economic lecture and Business Workshop day starting at 10:30 a.m. The lecture part will feature Lamar Hunt Jr., who is the present owner of the Kansas City Mavericks hockey team. The business department will also be inducting Jewell Alum and Kansas City Chiefs employee Chris Stathopolous into the Business and Leadership Department Alum Hall of Fame. There will be a Business Workshop Day for current and potential future business students that will allow students to attend workshops on LinkedIn, resume development and networking. The Business Workshop Day will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Thursday is Halloween, and resident advisors at Eaton Hall are hosting a HallowEaton event with pumpkin painting, caramel apples, a scary movie, and trick or treating around the dorms. There’s also a political science and history trivia night happening in Gano put on by the Political Science Honors Society. Free pizza will be offered to all attendees, and prizes will be offered to first, second and third place.

For Friday there’s a women’s soccer game at Bellarmine college and a volleyball game at Truman state starting at 7 p.m. While both games are off-campus, they will also be streamed on Jewell’s website if you’re not feeling up to the commutes.

On Saturday there’s a volleyball game at Quincy University and a football game at 4 p.m. at Grand Valley State.

To finish off the week Residence Life is hosting a viewing party for the Chiefs at 12 p.m. in Jones hall as they take on the Vikings. There will also be free pizza. Will Patrick Mahomes be healed in time to play? Show up to Jones at noon to find out.
