The volleyball team is off to a great start this season, and look to continue their win streak.

The William Jewell College volleyball team is setting the courts ablaze this season. In a little over a month, the volleyball team has earned nine victories in all with a five-win streak.
But “that will not be all,” said sophomore defensive specialist and mathematics and psychology major, Olivia Tolberd.
“Already this year we have accomplished more than our entire season last year,” Tolberd said.
The game-changer this season is the unity that the team has on and off the court.
“I would say…there are no individuals. When we get in our flow, we all work as one and it feels like one unit, all united toward the same purpose. It’s a strong connection we haven’t had in a while and it’s very exciting to see where it could lead,” said Captain and psychology and Spanish major Grace Miller.

“This year we have definitely become a team that supports each other during the good and the bad,” Tolberd said.
The team, while achieving together, has fostered some incredible individual accomplishments. Tolberd was runner-up for Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) defensive player of the week two weeks ago and was just shy of tying the Jewell record for the most digs in one match. At their first GLVC win this season, middle blocker Madeline Johnson, junior nursing major, and Miller both earned career highs of 14 kills.
The team is training hard in hopes of moving up in conference.
“The volleyball team has so much we have not yet accomplished but are making strives every day to reach those goals,” said Tolberd.
The volleyball team’s next match is against Drury University on Oct. 7th in Springfield, Mo. The Cardinals will be back on the Hill to face Maryville University on Oct. 21st at 7:00 PM. The Jewell community should support the team that is doing a striking job at supporting each other.
