Student Senate establishes committees, starts year with big plans

William Jewell College Student Senate started the fall semester by redefining its structure. As always the Cabinet stresses that every senator attend the weekly meetings, but they also encourage the student body to participate in the discussion by joining them in PLC 112 every Tuesday at 5:15. In addition to its four member cabinet, Senate is comprised of four committees: service, spirit, student life and communications.

The Service Committee, which is led by senior Jillian Bush, is in charge of finding service projects, organizing and carrying out projects with the help of the body. Currently, its committee members are planning to host a service project at Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary .

The Spirit Committee is co-chaired by Mikayla Roller, sophomore, and Rebecca Wolfe, sophomore. This committee exists to keep tabs on various sports and advertising.

The third committee is the Student Life Committee, and acts as the liaison between residence life and the rest of campus.

The Communications Committee will maintain the Senate Facebook and Twitter accounts, and is working to redo the Senate board and keep it updated with the help of Campus Photographer Kyle Rivas.

Receive updates on these projects and more at the next Senate meeting Tuesday, Sept. 23.
