In December of 2019 – just before the pandemic hit – I was lucky enough to spend the holiday season traveling Europe. Naturally, I made sure to visit some of the most iconic Christmas markets, including ones in Berlin, Munich and Prague.
As we enter into an unusually isolated holiday season, I’ve been reminiscing about the Christmas I spent in a world that seems so distant from the one we’re in now. One day, we will once again be able to gather with strangers and family alike in public spaces, sipping mulled wine and laughing without fear of transmitting a deadly virus. Until then, keep your circle small and enjoy a more intimate holiday season, and we will soon return to celebrating the holidays in community.
