Winning. This word describes the William Jewell baseball and softball teams. Both teams boast a win-to-loss ratio of over 65 percent.

Jewell baseball stands as the number one team in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GVLC) right now at seven wins and a single loss.

Timothy Miller, junior, expressed his optimism and excitement when asked about their recent success in the season and in the league.

“I think our season so far is by far the best start since I’ve been at Jewell, and our record shows it. We are tied for the best start in school history. We are playing against the game. We play to no standard. We play William Jewell baseball. We hold ourselves accountable; we hustle; we enjoy the process and we don’t get caught up in the moment.”

The baseball team hopes to mainttain their successful season thorugh steady, constant progress.

“We expect to finish on a high note by setting records and surprising people. Our end goal is a conference championship and of course a world series win,” Miller said.

A major contributor to the team’s success comes with its statistics. With the team slugging percentage at .395 and a fielding percentage of .973, the Jewell baseball team is a force with which to be reckoned.

At their current winning pace, the baseball team is set to achieve more wins and a higher standing in the GLVC than in the past three seasons, with an overall record of fourteen and three.

The next home game for the Cardinals will be held Satuday, Mar. 28 at noon at Talley Baseball Stadium. The William Jewell softball team will also play during this time.
