Middle schoolers in the 2000s relive their glory days.
Teen angst, noun, a phase of adolescence defined by ripped jeans and angry alternative music.
The phase hit us all. In fact, it is unavoidable and doesn’t really go away. It captures a piece of your soul, leaving you slightly angry for the rest of your life. While we dropped the dark makeup and choppy hair trends, the music stuck around with us. If you don’t still scream every word to “I Miss You” by Blink-182 when it comes on, you’re doing life wrong.
The era that was defined by “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” by Panic! At The Disco and “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs” by Fall Out Boy never truly ended for the fans or the bands. Both of these bands have changed their sounds and continued to produce music throughout the years.
Fall Out Boy spiraled downhill after their 2005 album “From Under The Cork Tree” which featured the songs “Dance, Dance” and “Sugar We’re Goin Down.” They have released four albums since then, the latest being “American Beauty/American Psycho” which topped the Billboard 200 in 2015. They have taken on more of an alternative-pop sound, creating hits like “Centuries” and “Uma Thurman” that were overplayed on pop radio.
Panic! At The Disco released a new album in early Jan. 2016 and will begin touring in Feb 2017. Their sound changed drastically from their first album in 2005 to now. “Victorious,” a single from their newest album, sounds like a completely different band.
Last week, My Chemical Romance made us all feel really old and celebrated the 10th anniversary of their third album by reissuing “The Black Parade.” This release featured all the original songs that you pretend you forgot about but really listened to last week, including “Welcome to the Black Parade” and “Teenagers,” but it also included a second part called “Living with Ghosts.” This includes live demos and previously unreleased songs from the original production of the album.
If you enjoyed these bands in your past and want to relive it all, here’s a list of 10 other songs that are turning 10 this year.
