Homecoming events continue with costume competition at volleyball game

Tuesday, Oct. 2, William Jewell College continued Homecoming Week with a costume contest and dance-off while watching the volleyball team compete against the Rockhurst Hawks.

During the game, students from each team participated in a dance-off that took place in between sets of the volleyball game. Competitors in the dance off were Brianna Francis, Spencer Ruwe, Elise Villareal, Noah Studebaker, Sam Sullivan, Gillian Flaherty, Haley Call and Reese Schaaf.

The three finalists for the dance-off were Spencer Ruwe, Elise Villareal and Sam Sullivan. Elise Villareal won the competition.

Additionally, students participated in a costume contest. The five winners of the costume contest were Jesus and His Disciples from Jesus Christ Superstar, Glinda and Elphaba from Wicked, Rocky, Minnie Mouse and Winnie the Pooh.

The Cardinals lost to the Hawks with an overall set score of 1-3. The Hawks won set one and two with a score of 19-25 and 15-25, respectively. Jewell beat the Hawks 25-19 in set three. The Hawks came back to win the game with a score of 14-25 in set three.

Alpha Gamma Delta and Phi Gamma Delta won the spirit stick for the event.
